The Multilayered Nature of Energy

By Adara Moselle

In addition to the foundational understanding of energy, it’s important to explore the systems through which energy flows. Human energy is not limited to just the physical or emotional realms. We are composed of multiple layers of energy, and these layers interact with each other constantly.

Subtle Energy Systems: Our physical body is intertwined with energetic systems like the chakra system and the meridian system. These systems help us understand how energy moves within us.

  • Chakras: These are the energy centers located along the spine, each corresponding to different aspects of our being (root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, crown). Chakras influence both physical organs and emotional states. Meridians: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, these are pathways through which energy (Qi) flows. Blockages in these pathways can lead to physical or emotional discomfort.

  • Nadis: In yogic philosophy, these are energy channels. The most prominent are the Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna nadis, representing the masculine, feminine, and central energy pathways. Understanding these systems allows us to see that the human body is not just physical matter but a network of interwoven energy pathways. This knowledge forms the basis for energy healing, acupuncture, Reiki, and other forms of energy work.

 How Energy Affects Our Reality

When you gain a deeper control over your energy, it influences more than just your physical body—it impacts your external reality.

  • Manifestation: Energy is the driver behind manifestation. Thoughts, emotions, and intentions are all forms of energy. When you align your thoughts and emotions with a clear intention, your energy becomes a powerful tool for shaping reality. This is sometimes referred to as the law of attraction, though its roots go much deeper in ancient traditions of energy work.

  • Activating Dormant Abilities: There are abilities that lay dormant in all of us, often referred to as "gifts" or heightened senses. When your energy is fully activated, you may experience expanded intuition, the ability to sense others’ emotions (sometimes known as empathy or clairvoyance), or heightened creativity.

  • Emotional Mastery: Energy plays a huge role in our emotions. Emotions are simply energy in motion. When you master your energy, you are able to control your emotional responses more effectively. Instead of reacting, you respond with balance and clarity. This is one of the key benefits of understanding and managing your energy: it allows you to become the master of your emotional state.

 Advanced Energy Practices

  • Energy Amplification through Breath and Visualization: One way to strengthen your energy is through combining breath with visualization. For example, as you inhale deeply, imagine drawing light into your body, filling every cell with vibrant, healing energy. As you exhale, visualize any tension or negativity leaving your body. Over time, this practice not only boosts your energy but also enhances your ability to direct it where it’s needed most—whether for healing or manifestation.

  • Kundalini Energy: Kundalini refers to the coiled energy at the base of the spine. When properly awakened, this energy moves upward through the chakras, activating higher consciousness and profound spiritual experiences. This is not something to rush or force, as it involves a deep understanding of the body’s energy systems, but gentle Kundalini practices like root chakra breathing can help start the process safely.

“When we resist the flow of energy, we resist the flow of life.

To embrace energy is to embrace life itself."

— Dōgen Zenji

 Scientific Connections to Energy Mastery

While much of the understanding of energy comes from spiritual and ancient traditions, there is also a scientific component.

  • Energy Fields: Science now recognizes the existence of energy fields around all living things, known as the biofield or aura. These fields can be measured by sensitive instruments like electroencephalograms (EEG) and electrocardiograms (ECG). Our biofield interacts with the environment, influencing and being influenced by the energy of others.

  • Vibrational Frequencies: Everything in the universe, including the human body, operates at a specific frequency. When our vibration is high, we experience more positive emotions like joy, love, and peace. When it’s low, we might feel negative emotions such as fear or anger. This vibrational frequency is what connects us to the concept of energy alignment.
